Prepare for a healthcare career through courses offered at Roane State’s Cumberland County campus
INFORMATIONAL NIGHT: MARCH 2 AT 5:00PM
Roane State Community College Workforce Development will offer training for careers in phlebotomy, ECG technician and Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) at the Cumberland County campus.
Phlebotomists, ECG technicians and CCMAs are sought-after medical professionals. The high-quality training available at Roane State’s Cumberland County campus, 2567 Cook Road in Crossville, will offer a convenient, fast and affordable path to these healthcare careers. Courses will be offered in the evenings to accommodate working adults.
Phlebotomists specialize in drawing blood and work in a variety of healthcare systems including hospitals, clinics, medical group practices, laboratories and public health facilities. The course will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays (6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) from March 27-May 24.
ECG technicians use specialized equipment to record electrical impulses transmitted by a patient’s heart. Roane State’s course includes instruction in anatomy and physiology and technical skills. The course will be held on Tuesday and Thursday (6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) from March 28-May 25.
Students must complete both phlebotomy and ECG to qualify for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) course. Clinical medical assistants work directly with patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or doctor.
Generally, a CCMA will prepare patients for examinations and assist the doctor during the procedure, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests and draw blood. Roane State’s course includes lecture and hands-on laboratory instruction. The course will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays (6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) from April 17th 2017 to July 10th 2017.
All three courses help prepare students to take national certification exams in the respective fields.
